Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). El Paso Corporation (NYSE:EP) (Houston, Texas), a subsidiary of Southern Natural Gas Company (Birmingham, Alabama) has placed the first phase of its Cypress Pipeline into service. The new pipeline originates at El Pasos LNG receiving and re-gasification terminal located near Savannah, Georgia, and continues in a southerly direction into northern Florida and terminates at an interconnection with Florida Gas Transmissions pipeline system near Jacksonville, Florida. The Cypress Pipeline now becomes the third dedicated natural gas pipeline to serve Florida. The initial phase of the 167 mile 24 inch diameter pipeline will have a natural gas transportation capacity of 220 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd). Gulf State Engineering Company (Houston, Texas) was the engineering company and Latex Construction Company (Monroe, Georgia) was the acting general contractor for Phase I.
The third phase will involve the construction of two new compressor stations and the addition of approximately 10 miles of 30 inch diameter pipeline looping. The compressor stations will most likely utilize a single Solar Taurus turbine-driven compressor package each. One will be located in Liberty County, Georgia and the second will be located in Nassau County, Florida. The Phase III expansion when completed in some time in 2010 will add an additional 164 mmcfd of natural gas capacity and will bring the overall capacity of the Cypress Pipeline to a total of 500 mmcfd of natural gas. W S Nelson & Company has been awarded the design & engineering contract for the Phase III compressor station in Nassau County, Florida. Gulf Interstate Engineering Incorporated was awarded the design & engineering contract for the compressor station Liberty County, Georgia as well as the pipeline looping portion of the Phase III project.
Industrial Info has been following the progress of the Cypress Pipeline project since October of 2000.
