Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas) -- Entergy Arkansas Incorporated (Little Rock, Arkansas) is planning to invest over $100-million during the next five years on environmental upgrades at its White Bluff Power Station in Redfield, Arkansas. The 1,700-megawatt coal-fired power station consists of two 850-megawatt General Electric steam turbine/generator sets and two Alstom/Combustion Engineering tangential-fired dry bottom boilers. The units became operational in 1980 and 1981.
Washington Group International (Denver, Colorado) is providing consultancy service for the wet Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) Systems being installed on both units. The new FGD systems will reduce sulfur dioxide emissions. Construction is scheduled to start in spring 2009 with completion in 2012.
At the same time, Low NOx burners (LNB) and Overfired-Air (OFA) ports designed to reduce nitrogen dioxide will also be installed along with the scrubbers in 2012.
Entergy also owns and operates Arkansas only nuclear plant, the 1,837-megawatt Arkansas Nuclear One (Russellville, Arkansas), the 1,700-megawatt Independence Power Station (Newark, Arkansas), and the 758-megawatt Lake Catherine Power Station (Jones Mill, Arkansas).
