Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 40-megawatt (MW) San Francisco Power Plant in Cordoba is currently generating only 12 MW of electricity with Unit 1. Unit 2 has been down since December 2008 because of problems with the turbine's rotor and stage compressor blades. The plant, which began operation in 1981, is owned and operated by Empresa Provincial de Energia Electrica de Cordoba (Cordoba) (EPEC), which is responsible for generation, transmission and retail distribution of electricity in the province.
Equipped with two combustion turbines of 17 MW and 23 MW of nominal capacity, respectively, the facility runs on diesel fuel or natural gas and operates during peak demand periods.
EPEC officials said they are about to release requests for quotations to repair and assemble the turbine rotor of Unit 2. The work will include repairs, assembly and balancing of the rotor, and new compressor blades, bearings and other equipment will be acquired.
Unit 2 is a Frame 5 MS5001 PG5341 gas turbine manufactured under license to General Electric (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut) by John Brown Gas Turbines Limited with a nominal power output of 23 MW. Unit 1 is a Fiat Avio TG16 unit with a nominal output of 17 MW but reduced to 12 MW because of high temperatures.
EPEC also is looking for proposals to repair and balance the turbine rotor of a Fiat TG16 installed at the Las Playas Power Station in Cordoba. This plant has three Fiat TG16 combustion turbines and generators manufactured by Marelli.
