Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--A generating unit at the Peach Bottom Nuclear Power Station and another unit at the Limerick Nuclear Station, both in Pennsylvania, have been taken offline for repairs, according to officials with Exelon Corporation (NYSE: EXC) (Chicago, Illinois).
Unit 02 at the Peach Bottom Nuclear Station, which is located in Delta, Pennsylvania, was taken offline early Monday after drywell leakage was found. The station is operated by Exelon and is jointly owned by Exelon (50%) and Public Service Enterprise Group (NYSE:PEG) (PSEG) (Newark, New Jersey) (50%).
The 1,122-megawatt (MW) unit was forced offline due to leakage in the drywell from packing in a valve. Officials said repairs began this morning, with an expected 54-hour completion turnaround. Exelon operates two nuclear units at Peach Bottom. Unit 03, which has a capacity of 1,122 MW, was unaffected.
Also, the 1,134-MW Unit 2 at the Limerick Nuclear Power Station, which is located in Limerick Township, Pennsylvania, was taken offline early Sunday due to generator issues. The station is solely owned and operated by Exelon.
Officials said repairs on the Limerick unit are under way, and it is expected to return to service by the middle of this week. Limerick units 1 and 2 produce a total of 2,345 MW, which is enough to power more than two million homes.
