Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Vehicle parts manufacturer Federal-Mogul Corporation (NASDAQ:FDML) (Southfield, Michigan) has announced plans to close the company's powertrain systems manufacturing plant in Schofield, Wisconsin.
The company plans to close the plant by March 2011 and transfer equipment to plants in Wisconsin and South Bend, Indiana. Approximately 200 jobs will be lost due to the plant's closure. The company is pointing to declines in the automotive industry for the closure. Closing the facility will allow the company to streamline its business. The Schofield plant currently manufactures piston rings.
Federal-Mogul Corporation, supplies powertrain and safety technologies to the light commercial, automotive, heavy-duty, industrial, agricultural, marine, rail, off-road and industrial vehicle industry. As of 2010, the company employed approximately 43,000 people in 34 countries and had 107 manufacturing locations, 25 distribution centers and 16 technical centers. In 2009, the company had revenues of approximately $5.3 billion.
