Firestone Polymers Prepares For Construction of New Production Line in Texas

Firestone Polymers LLC (Akron, Ohio) is planning a third crumb rubber line at its plant located in Orange, Texas, early in 2005. Industrialinfo.com originally reported this project in May 1999, when Jacobs Engineering Group Incorporated (Houston, Texas) was providing services for this nearly $35 million project.

Poor market performance prompted Firestone Polymers to place the project on hold in early 2000. As of August 2004, Levingston Engineers Incorporated (Sulphur, Louisiana) was hired to complete the engineering and prepare bid packages for this project. The solicitation of bid documents for general contractors began last week, and an award will be announced in mid-December. Most of the major pieces of equipment for this project had been previously purchased. The selected general contractor will be responsible for hiring all subcontractors needed to complete the installation.

Firestone Polymers expects site mobilization and civil construction to begin in January, with a target completion of July or August 2005. Firestone Polymers generally plans an annual maintenance turnaround at the Orange site in the first quarter of each year, and many tie-ins for this line addition will be prepared during the first quarter 2005 turnaround.
