First Unit of Zhenhai Oil to Gas Renovation Project Passes 168 Hours Commissioning

The first unit of Zhenhai Power Plant Oil to Gas Renovation Power Project, a 350 MW level gas-steam combined cycle generating unit, passed the 168 hours commissioning at Zhenhai District, Ningbo city in East China’s Zhejiang province on June 9, 2007, through the close cooperation between all parties involved in the construction of the project.

Zhenhai Oil to Gas Renovation Project received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the top planner in China, on February 7, 2005. Two 350 MW level gas-steam combined-cycle generating units will be built based on the removal of two 125 MW oil-fired units originally existing in Zhenhai Power Plant. The project is jointly invested by Zhejiang Power Development Company (Zhejiang, China) (51%), Shanghai Power Company, Limited (Shanghai, China) (37.5%) and Ningbo Power Development Company (Zhejiang, China) (11.5%).

The project is an auxiliary project for the development of the oil and gas field in East China. Contract for the procurement of main equipment was signed on September 16, 2004, which was taken into effect upon approval on March 24, 2005. Construction of the project was started officially on May 8, 2005. The 168 hours commissioning of the second unit will be completed by the end of June 2007, according to the plan. Upon completion of the project, annual power output will reach 5 billion KWh, which will alleviate the power shortage in Zhejiang province in an effective way.

Zhenhai Power Plant, initially established in 1978, is located in the Zhenhai District in Ningbo City. Total installation capacity is 1,050 MW; Zhenhai Power Plant is the first large-scale thermal power plant with an installation capacity over 1,000 MW in Zhejiang province.
