Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Florida Gas Transmission Company (FGT) (Houston, Texas) is planning to replace a portion of its natural gas pipeline system in Broward County, Florida. FGT intends to replace approximately 11.3 miles of pipeline in its SR 91 project to allow for a portion of a state roadway to be expanded. Presently, FGT has two natural gas pipelines that parallel State Road 91. Portions of the mileage of the existing dual 18" and 24" diameter pipelines that parallel SR 91 will be abandoned in place and other lengths will be removed entirely. FGT will construct a new 36" diameter natural gas pipeline segment approximately 25 feet west of the existing pipeline location.
In total, FGT will abandon approximately 11.15 miles of 18" diameter and 10.75 miles of 24" diameter mainline beginning at Atlantic Boulevard and ending at Griffin Road in Broward County. FGT will install 11.15 miles of new 36" diameter pipeline between the two roads along SR 91. FGT will also tie into the new 36" line into its Sunrise and Plantation Laterals by constructing approximately 700 feet of new 4" and 6" diameter pipelines. FGT will have to install a new pig launching and receiving facilities, a regulator station and two new mainline valves. FGT also plans to retain approximately a quarter of a mile of the 24" pipeline to allow for future facility bypass connections without service interruptions.
FGT hopes to have all necessary permits in place and begin construction on the $110.2 million SR 91 relocation project in October of 2006 and have the new segment in service some time in mid-2007. Florida Gas Transmission Company is a 50/50 joint venture pipeline system owned 50 percent by CrossCountry Energy (Houston, Texas), a business unit of Southern Union Company (NYSE:SUG) (Wilkes-Barr, Pennsylvania), and 50 percent by Southern Natural Gas Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of El Paso Corporation (NYSE:EP ) (Houston, Texas).
