Ford Motor Company (Dearborn, MI) (NYSE:F) is well into the expansion of its Windsor, ON engine plant on Seminole Street. Ground was broken May 15, 2000 for a 650,000 square foot building. The facility will be opening as a staged event, beginning August 19, 2002 and finishing in February 2004.
The plant will be the first tri-valve engine plant for North America and will manufacture 1.32 million cylinder heads a year for V-8 and V-10 Triton truck engines. Its robotic machining line will be the largest in North America.
Giffels Associates (Rexdale, ON) is the architect and engineer for the new building. Cynatime Incorporated (Windsor, ON), one of the only companies with the capability of moving and installing such large equipment, will be installing four German-built machining modules, consisting of 43 computerized machining centers, which will replace the in-line transfer machines usually found in the North American automobile industry.
