Gardiner, former President of the Maine Public Broadcasting Network, to create Independence Wind LLC (Brunswick, Maine) to build large commercial-size windfarms in Maine and other New England states.

Independence Wind created Record Hill Wind LLC, a subsidiary, to build the first $120 million to $220 million, 50-megawatt (MW) to 80 MW windfarm just west of Roxbury in Oxford County Maine. The windfarm will consist of 17 to 32 2.5 MW to 3 MW wind turbine/generator sets. Construction is set to begin in 2009, and commercial operation is expected in 2010. Record Hill Wind has selected Tamarack Energy Incorporated (Essex, Connecticut), a subsidiary of Haley and Aldrich Incorporated (Boston, Massachusetts), to handle engineering. Contractors have not yet been selected, but Gardiner has said that the company's intention is to utilize Maine firms as the contractors.
