Fortistar Develops 80-Megawatt Peaking Project in Staten Island

Fortistar Capital Incorporated (White Plains, New York) continues development for the $30 million, 80-megawatt (MW) South Avenue Peaking Project, located in the Bloomfield area of Staten Island, Richmond County, New York.

Fortistar is pursuing financing and power purchase agreements at this time. Commercial operation is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2006. The project will consist of two natural gas-fired 48 MW GE Power Systems LM6000PC SPRINT combustion turbine generators. The plant will operate in a simple-cycle peaking configuration.

Fortistar is also developing another peaking project named Chelsea Avenue, which is located just south of the South Avenue project and is scheduled to begin construction in the spring of 2005. Both projects are being developed to help the state of New York with its shortage of power generation in the Staten Island area. Both projects will also utilize state-of-the-art technology to minimize air emissions.

Burns & Roe Group Incorporated headquartered in Orandell, New Jersey is providing the engineering for the project. Fresh Meadow Mechanical Corporation, based in Fresh Meadows, New York, has a letter of intent to act as the general contractor for the project.
