France's Agence Française de Développement (AFD) is giving $300 million to the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), including $245 million to Nigeria's Northern Corridor Transmission Project and $55 million to the Sokoto-Kaura Namoda-Katsina double-circuit line.
The Northern Corridor Project is the backbone of the West African Power Pool North Core, which is designed to connect Nigeria, Niger Republic, Republic of Benin and Burkina Faso on a 330-kilovolt (kV), double-circuit transmission line, by constructing 330/132/33kV substations in the cities of Sokoto, Daura and Jogana-Kano, and 132/33kV substations in the cities of Birnin Gwari, Argungu and Lambata.
