Researched by Industrial Info Resources Latin America (Cordoba, Argentina)--General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut) will supply four 34-megawatt, LM2500+G4 power generation turbines to the Cidade de Caraguatatuba floating production, storage and offloading unit (FPSO) off the coast of Brazil.

The turbine contract was signed with a consortium formed by Grupo Schahin (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Modec Incorporated (Tokyo, Japan), which is building the FPSO.

The FPSO is expected to begin operations during the third quarter of 2016 in the Lapa offshore production field (previously called Carioca field), in Santos Basin. It will have a production capacity of 100,000 barrels per day (BBL/d), with 177 standard cubic feet per day of natural gas and a crude oil storage capacity of 1.6 million barrels.

The Schahin/Modec Consortium signed a contract to construct and operate the FPSO in November 2013 with Petroleo Brasileiro S.A. (NYSE:PBR) (Petrobras) (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), which is the Lapa field operator. The project's total investment value is about $1.2 billion.

The first hull conversion works began in the Jurong Shipyard in Singapore, while the module integration works will be performed in the Brasfels Shipyard in Angra dos Reis city, Brazil, by Toyo Engineering Corporation (Tokyo, Japan).

This will be the 11th FPSO to be operated by Modec in Brazil. Modec has two more FPSOs under construction, both in Santos Basin: the Cidade de Mangaratiba and the Cidade de Itaguai. The Cidade de Mangaratiba is expected to begin production in the fourth quarter of 2014, and the Cidade de Itaguai in 2015.
