The Hamlet plant, which opened in 1972, will be closing due to poor market conditions and low customer demand. The Hamlet facility makes extruded polyethylene sheets and barrier film for the packaging of consumer products, food, textiles and medical devices. The plant operated seven extrusion lines and, in 2007, reported sales estimated at $19 million. The plant closure is part of the company's overall restructuring to reduce its plastics footprint and concentrate on its core paper and fiber product businesses.
