Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Allatoona Hydro Power Station in Georgia will remain offline for the rest of the year following a fire in May, according to sources. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is working to eventually restore operations at the 102-megawatt (MW) station, which is located in Cartersville on the shore of Allatoona Lake.
The station was undergoing a planned outage for the replacement of switchyard transformers and other equipment when the fire occurred on May 19.

The fire caused no injuries and no damage to the Allatoona dam.
The power station consists of two 50-MW S. Morgan Smith hydraulic turbines with Siemens AG (NYSE:SI) (Munich, Germany) generators and one 2.3-MW Francis Allis-Chalmers hydraulic turbine with a Siemens generator. Plant sources said they were working to return Unit 4 online in January, and return units 1 and 2 online a month or two later.
