Grassroot Sodium Solutions Plant Planned for West Virginia

Esseco USA LLC (Parsippany, New Jersey), a subsidiary of Esseco Group (Trecate, Italy), is planning for the construction of a grassroot sodium solutions plant to be located in or near Charleston, West Virginia. This will be Esseco’s first North American manufacturing plant with an initial production capacity estimated at 60,000 tons per year of sodium metabisulfite, sodium sulfite, and sodium bisulfite solutions. Esseco operates a distribution and warehouse operation in Baltimore, Maryland that currently supports demand for its products across North America.

Esseco is evaluating two separate plant sites in Charleston and expects to make a site selection in the next few weeks. At least one of the sites has existing infrastructure and will require substantial retrofits and upgrades to accommodate the new plant. Esseco is expected to select an engineering and construction contractor early this fall. If schedules are kept, site construction for this nearly $20 million project could begin in the second quarter of 2006, with the first product shipments in early 2007.
