Attachment Click on the image at right for a breakdown by sector of planned second-quarter 2019 Industrial Manufacturing project starts in the Great Lakes market region.

Among the top projects planned to kick off in the region in the quarter is Foxconn Technology Group's (Taipei, Taiwan) planned liquid crystal display (LCD) screen manufacturing plant in Mount Pleasant, Wisconsin. The $2.5 billion Phase 1A of the project is part of a larger planned $10 billion undertaking. The first phase includes construction of a 1.5 million-square-foot assembly plant and other buildings. The plant is expected to be completed in 2021. Jacobs Engineering Group Incorporated (NYSE:JEC) (Dallas, Texas) is providing architectural and engineering services. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report. The latest on the off-again, on-again project is that it will definitely happen, according to Foxconn.

The Foxconn project has been somewhat controversial because of large benefits being given to Foxconn by the state. In January, Foxconn Chief Executive Officer Terry Gou said that the company would not yet try to access any of the $3 billion in incentives, because it had not met hiring requirements attached to them.

Data centers also feature prominently in the region's planned spending. In Ohio, Facebook Incorporated (NASDAQ:FB) (Menlo Park, California) plans to begin Phase II construction on a data center in New Albany. The 450,000-square-foot data hall will be powered entirely by renewable energy. Turner Construction Company (Columbus, Ohio) is the general contractor on the project, which has an estimated total investment value (TIV) of $350 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

In Itasca, Illinois, RagingWire Data Centers Incorporated's (Reno, Nevada) planned data center is in the engineering phase. The facility will be built on a 19-acre site and will be 200,000 square feet, expandable to 500,000 square feet, with 15 megawatts of power generation. Construction is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2020. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

In Indianapolis, Indiana, FedEx Corporation (NYSE:FDX) (Memphis, Tennessee) plans to begin work on its Indianapolis Ship Center, an international air hub that will include 16 aircraft gates, two package-sorting facilities, a refrigerated building for perishable shipments and a building to handle truck deliveries. FedEx expects the facility to be able to handle 99,000 to 111,000 packages per hour by 2020, and 147,000 packages per hour by 2023, when final completion is expected. CHA Consulting Incorporated (Indianapolis) is performing design engineering. The project has a TIV of $1.5 billion. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Light rail projects are a prominent feature in Industrial Manufacturing project activity, and the upcoming quarter is no different. In Indiana, the Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority (Crown Point, Indiana) plans to begin construction on a 25.1-mile double-track project between Gary and Michigan City. The project will include construction of five station platforms to provide faster and more frequent rail service. HDR Engineering Incorporated (Jacksonville, Florida) is providing design engineering on the project, which has a TIV of $210 million. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

Industrial Info is tracking several distribution and warehousing projects, propelling the sector to the top of the region's second-quarter Industrial Manufacturing spending. Among these projects is Exeter Property Group's (Downers Grove, Illinois) speculative warehouse campus near Joliet, Illinois. The two buildings will be built on a 101-acre site. Building 1 will be 292,000 square feet with 76 loading docks and two drive-in doors, and Building 2 will be 802,000 square feet with 166 loading docks and four drive-in doors. Spaceco Incorporated (Rosemont, Illinois) is the engineer. Construction is set to be completed by the end of 2019. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.

These are a few of the more than 115 Industrial Manufacturing projects planned for a second-quarter kickoff in the Great Lakes region being tracked by Industrial Info. For more information, subscribe to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMII) Database Platform.
