Guinea's Ministry of Mines and Geology is working with Russian and Chinese companies to improve Guinea's infrastructure. China recently signed a US$20 billion agreement with Guinea to help improve the African nation's infrastructure, in exchange for bauxite ore.

This is a welcome development for Guinea's bauxite industry. Despite being blessed with the world's largest bauxite reserves, estimated at 7.4 billion metric tons, Guinea historically has lagged behind other nations in bauxite production, including Australia, Brazil, China and India.

Guinea's bauxite is frequently used in alumina production. Industrial Info is tracking about $6.83 billion in Guinea bauxite projects; click here for a list, and see chart below for a state-by-state breakdown.
