Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Southwest China's Guizhou province will invest more than $58 billion in its Power Industry in the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-15), which is about 4.5 times the total investment for the Power Industry during the 11th Five-Year Plan (2006-10) according to Guizhou Grid Company (Guiyang, Guizhou), a regional subsidiary of China Southern Power Grid Corporation (Guangzhou, Guangdong).
According to the strategic cooperation agreement signed between China Southern Power Grid Corporation and the government of the Guizhou province, China Southern Power Grid will invest more than $15 billion in Guizhou for grid projects during the 12th Five-Year Plan.
Leading power generation groups in China also signed strategic cooperation agreements with the government of Guizhou province. According to these agreements, more than $43 billion will be invested for power generation projects in Guizhou during the period. Of this, China Huadian Corporation (Beijing) will invest more than $9 billion, China Power Investment Corporation (Beijing) will invest more than $19 billion, China Guodian Corporation (Beijing) will invest about $6 billion in Guizhou, and China Datang Corporation (Beijing) will also invest over $9 billion in Guizhou during the period.
During the 12th Five-Year Plan, Guizhou will kick off construction for 18 major hydropower and coal-fired power plants with an expected installed capacity of 18.88 gigawatts (GW), and put them into operation. Taking into account the 1.54 GW of inefficient, smaller coal-fired units that will be shut down in the coming five years in places such as Guiyang and Xishui, the actual installed capacity for the Guizhou Grid will be 17.34 GW.
Presently, Guizhou Grid has a total installed capacity of 28.41 GW under its united dispatching. With the completion of these proposed projects, the total installed capacity under the united dispatching of Guizhou Grid will surpass 45 GW.
