Huaneng Group and Shanghai Electric to Establish Research Center for Emissions Reduction

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--China Huaneng Group (Beijing) has signed an agreement with Shanghai Electric Group Corporation (Shanghai) to set up the Huaneng-Shanghai Electric Research Center on Greenhouse Gas Emissions. The signing ceremony was held in Shanghai on December 2.

According to the agreement, the companies will research emissions-reduction technology and energy-efficient technology. Two 600-megawatt coal-fired units at the Huaneng Shanghai Shidongkou No. 2 Power Plant will serve as a pilot project to research and develop carbon-dioxide emissions-reduction technology for coal-fired generating unit.

As leading enterprises in power generation and power equipment manufacture sector in China, the Huaneng Group and Shanghai Electric have established a long-term partnership. In response to the nation's requirement on energy conservation and emissions reduction, the companies are committed to researching emissions reduction of greenhouse gases as well as other energy conservation and emission reduction technologies. The companies are also working to promote sustainable development of the energy industry through the joint establishment and operation of the research center.

In July, the Huaneng Group commissioned a 3,000-ton carbon dioxide recovery device, the first coal-fired power plant flue gas demonstrative project for the capture of carbon dioxide in China, at a Beijing plant.
