IIR Top Refining News Today: May 18th 2020

Marathon continues to operate with a 20% rate reduction at its 530,000-BBL/d Garyville, Louisiana, refinery, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. At this time, Marathon continues to evaluate production rates as demand increases across the state.

Phillips 66 on May 17 restarted the 78,000-BBL/d Heavy Oil Cracker 27-1, after it was shut down on May 16 for unplanned repairs, at its 259,000-BBL/d Sweeny, Texas, refinery. The refinery is still derated due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting decrease in demand for products.

Phillips 66 on May 15 shut down the 14,000-BBL/d HF Alky 22 at its 145,000-BBL/d Borger, Texas, refinery, for two weeks of unplanned repairs. The unit was previously shut down for planned repairs between September 8 and November 14, 2019.

International
SK Energy Company Limited on May 15 began a 37-day planned turnaround of the 260,000-BBL/d Crude 5 and 66,000-BBL/d RFCCU 1 units at its 840,000-BBL/d Ulsan Nam-gu Complex in South Korea. Expectations are to complete repairs and resume normal operations by June 20.

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) continues to operate its 760,000-BBL/d Jamnagar SEZ Refinery in India at approximately 90%. On April 26, the CDU 1 and CDU 2 units were forced to derate to approximately 7% and 12%, respectively, due to low demand as a result of COVID-19. As of now, the units are expected to resume full throughput by May 31.

China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) reports no impact to normal operations at its 230,000-BBL/d Fushun Refinery in China, despite a wastewater facility fire caused by lightning on May 16. All processing units, including the 70,000-BBL/d CDU 1 and 160,000-BBL/d CDU 2, are running at a normal rate.
