IIR Top Refining News Today: May 4th 2020

Total Petrochemical on April 30 restarted the 35,000-BBL/d Catalytic Reformer and 42,000-BBL/d Naphtha HT units at its 190,000-BBL/d Port Arthur, Texas, refinery, after they were shut down due to a power loss on April 28.

Total Petrochemical on April 30 restarted the 35,000-BBL/d Catalytic Reformer and 42,000-BBL/d Naphtha HT units at its 190,000-BBL/d Port Arthur, Texas, refinery, after they were shut down due to a power loss on April 28.

Imperial Oil continues a planned maintenance turnaround of the 25,000-BBL/d Fluid Coker, which started April 7, at its 120,000-BBL/d Sarnia, Ontario, Canada, refinery. Due to COVID-19-related factors, the event has been extended to May 15.

Marathon continues with reduced rates (20% derate) as auto fuel demand decreases due to COVID-19, affecting operations at its 101,000-BBL/d Saint Paul Park Refinery in Minnesota. A duration for this event has not been specified.

International
Rabigh Refining and Petrochemical Company on May 2 restarted four units at its 400,000-BBL/d Rabigh Refinery in Saudi Arabia, which is currently operational at 70%. The refinery has been under a planned turnaround since March 1. Another four units are still in the startup process. All units are expected to resume normal operations by May 6.

Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Company Limited (BSR) postponed for a second time a planned plant-wide turnaround, which includes four major units, at its 148,000-BBL/d Dung Quat Refinery in Vietnam. It is now scheduled for August 12 to enable a full complement of workers on site, and also to comply with COVID-19 distancing guidelines. The turnaround was previously set for June 28. Expectations are now to complete the 51-day maintenance by October 1.

Astron Energy has delayed the restart of its 100,000-BBL/d Cape Town Refinery in South Africa due to COVID-19 and a country-wide lockdown. The refinery, which includes 11 major units, has been under a planned major maintenance shutdown since February 2. Previously, the refinery was planned to restart on April 25, but now expectations are to resume maintenance activities by the third week of May and complete the repairs and restart the units by June 7.
