India Aims to Get Closer to 2030 Renewables Target with Floating Solar

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas-- India is the world's third-largest producer of renewable energy, with 40% of its installed electricity capacity coming from non-fossil fuel sources. The government has set an ambitious target of having 500 gigawatts (GW) of installed renewable energy by 2030, which includes the installation of 280 GW of solar power and 140 GW of wind power.

To achieve this target, India aims to install floating solar power plants across the country. According to The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) (New Delhi), India's reservoirs have an area of 18,000 square kilometers with the potential to generate 280 GW of solar power through floating solar photovoltaic (PV) plants.

India is hosting one of the world's largest floating solar plants, with a capacity of 600 megawatts (MW) at the Omkareshwar Dam, built on the Narmada River, in the central state of Madya Pradesh.
