Indian Oil Paradip-Ranchi Refined Products Pipeline Will Cater to Domestic Market

The pipelines have a capacity of 75.26 million metric tonnes per year of oil and 10 million standard cubic meters per day of gas.

IOCL plans to construct a Paradip-Sambhalpur-Raipur-Ranchi pipeline for the transportation of refined petroleum products including motor spirit, superior kerosene oil and high-speed diesel from the forthcoming Paradip Refinery in Orissa, which will cater to the domestic market, rather than the originally planned exports, due to a rise in fuel demand in India.

The refinery will produce 5.97 million tons of diesel; 3.4 million tons of petrol; 1.45 million tons of kerosene/ATF; 536,000 tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG); 124,000 tons of naphtha; and 335,000 tons of sulfur for the domestic market. About 200,000 tons of propylene may be exported.

The pipeline project will connect the Paradip refinery to the Marketing TOPs at Jatni, and Jharsuguda in Orissa, Korba and Raipur in Chhattisgarh, and Ranchi in Jharkhand. The 1,108-kilometer pipeline has a designed capacity of 5 million tonnes per year and will help ensure the distribution of the refined products and an uninterrupted supply to the above demand centers in a cost-effective manner. The approved cost of the project is approximately $405 million. Various field activities for the project have commenced. The project is scheduled for completion by September 2012. The project requires the installation of pump stations at Paradip, Jatni and Sambhalpur, and two 10,000-kiloliter high-speed diesel line balancing tanks at Sambhalpur.
