Indonesia Expands Hydroelectric Fleet to Meet Renewable Energy Goal

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Indonesia has embarked on a raft of hydroelectric projects to help the nation meet its goal of achieving 23% renewables in its energy mix by 2025.

Among these is the PLTA Jatigede project in the Jawa region, which has reached 85% completion, according to sources at PT PLN Persero. PT PLN Persero and its partner engineering, procurement and construction company, PT Sinohydro, are aiming for the hydropower station to be fully constructed and operational by the late months of 2021. They are still facing many obstacles in the development of this project but are confident that they will hit the 2021 target.

The plant will have a total capacity of 110 megawatts and is expected to yield yearly output of 462.6 gigawatt-hours. It will be connected to support the Jawa-Bali electrical system. Sources at PT PLN Persero say they will continue to press for the potential of renewable energy resources in the jawa region to help achieve the energy mix goal.
