Market Commentary:
North America is slowly beginning to re-open. We are moving from 97% of the U.S. population under stay-at-home or shelter-in-place orders to some states opening back up, according to CNN. This means drivers will be back on the roadways. Back at gas stations. And demand should be gradually improving.
In fact, we witnessed a small draw from gasoline inventories this week, as reported by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), and our storage fill--although at more than 60%--has gone from 19 million barrels to 15 million barrels to 9 million barrels this week. And refinery inputs have gone up 305,000 barrels per day this past week.
So, there are some definite welcome signs of recovery for refining in North America, because we were looking for every nook or cranny to store the crude, as production--a lumbering behemoth--obviously could not curtail fast enough.
Therefore, within this North America Refining Report, Industrial Info hopes to shed some light on what is transpiring from a refinery -operations perspective all the way down to the refinery level in Canada and the U.S. For the U.S., we will provide a PADD Map graphical outlook and a North America Area Chart to illustrate collectively when we expect refinery capacity to return over the next month. Also, you will find a capacity offline table that will display weekly what the available operating capacity by PADD Region at a refinery level is for COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 impacts.
