Market Commentary:
Hmmm. Though "storagemageddon" is in our rear view for now, it is interesting to note that stateside, we pulled another 5 million barrels out but shoved 2.8 million barrels in for MoGas and another 3.8 million barrels for distillates. Demand is supposed to be there, as more than 90% of the states should be opening back up. We are hoping to witness crude and products storage coming down, for we did see refinery runs increase to 12.9 million barrels. Go refiners!
And speaking about running, the checkered flag will drop on the Coca Cola 600 -- albeit with no fans in the stands but, alas, not on the Indy 500. Life is beginning to return to some semblance of normalcy. But it will be a new normal amid these COVID-19 times.
So interesting times indeed are here in North America as one tries to get a good handle on the overall supply/demand picture and its impact on the energy industry. Therefore, within this North American Refining Report, Industrial Info hopes to shed some light on what is transpiring from a refinery operations perspective all the way down to the refinery level in Canada. The report incorporates a North America Refinery Map as well as Area Chart to illustrate collectively when we can expect refinery capacity to return over the next month or so. For the U.S., IIR is providing a PADD Map graphical outlook and a chart to indicate when we might expect PADDs to become healthier.
Petroleum Refining Highlights
May 22, 2020 Valero on May 22 restarted the 90,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Crude Combo unit that had been shut down since May 19 at its 180,000-BBL/d Houston, Texas, refinery. Additionally, the 39,000-BBL/d Vacuum (Combo Unit) shut down for maintenance on April 30 and is restarting this weekend. The refinery continues at reduced rates due to the lack of fuel and product demand due to COVID-19.
May 21, 2020 Citgo Petroleum will continue with a planned maintenance turnaround, which started April 6, on the 100,000-BBL/d Crude (Sour) unit, associated Vacuum, 52,000-BBL/d-Reformer C and 60,000--BBL/d Delayed Coker 2 units at its 420,000-BBL/d Westlake, Lake Charles refinery through the first week of June.
May 20, 2020 PBF restarted the 18,000-BBL/d Hydrocracker on May 19 at its 175,000-BBL/d Delaware City, Delaware Refinery after the unit was forced to shut down on May 18 due to operational issues.
