Industrial Projects Under Development Surpass $38 Billion in Texas

Since October 2004, Industrialinfo.com has reported 720 unique industrial capital and maintenance projects in Texas. These projects represent more than $38 billion in total investment value (TIV) and are scheduled to reach the approval stage between 2005 and 2008. About a quarter of these projects have started construction or are in the advanced engineering stages, with construction start dates approaching.

Two large LNG terminal projects began construction in 2005. Cheniere Energy began construction on the Sabine Pass LNG Terminal and Freeport LNG Development began construction of its $650 million LNG receiving terminal in Freeport, Texas. The Terminals Industry is booming in Texas with 27 individual projects worth almost $6 billion reported just in the last year.

The Power Industry accounts for approximately 34% of the total industrial project spending across 109 projects. Projects in the Power Industry range from billion dollar grassroot coal-fired power plants, being developed by Oak Grove Management Company and Sandy Creek Energy Associates, to multi-million dollar outage for maintenance, repair, and overhaul of boilers and turbines.

The Industrial Manufacturing Industry has the most projects reported since October 2004 with 164 projects representing more than $7.6 billion in TIV. This industry is led by plans for billion-dollar semiconductor manufacturing and R&D facilities in Austin, Texas, by companies such as Samsung and Advanced Micro Devices.
