Invenergy, LLC (Chicago, Illinois) has started construction on the $350 million, 570-Megawatt (MW) St. Clair Energy Center located in Saint Clair Township, Ontario, Canada. Construction for the project began this month and is scheduled to be ready for full commercial operation by the summer of 2008. The project consists of a 2-on-1 combined-cycle power island equipped with two 170 MW natural gas-fired GE Power Systems MS7001FA combustion turbines, two Foster Wheeler heat recovery steam generators (HRSG) and a 230 MW Toshiba International Corporation steam turbine generator. The projects output will be sold to the Ontario Power Authority under a long-term, clean-energy supply contract executed in April of 2005.
Bibb & Associates, Incorporated, based in Lenexa, Kansas, performed the engineering services for the project. Flour Corporation, headquartered in Aliso Viejo, California is acting as the general contractor.
