Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Invenergy LLC (Chicago, Illinois), has completed construction and is in start-up testing of the $100 million, 300-megawatt Spindle Hill Energy Center located in Longmont, Colorado.
Construction on the project started in July 2006 and was completed earlier this year. Invenergy anticipates full commercial start-up of the plant by the end of this month. The project consisted of two dual fueled 150-megawatt GE Power Systems MS7001FA combustion turbine generators. The new facility will feature state-of-the art equipment for emissions technology such as Dry Low NOx burners to help reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions. Water injection will also be utilized for power augmentation. Spindle Hill will operate in a simple cycle mode providing power during the peak demand months during the summer and winter. All the power produced by Spindle Hill will be sold to Xcel Energy (NYSE:XEL) under a long term power purchase agreement.
General Electric Power Systems (Atlanta, Georgia) provided the turnkey E+P+C (engineering, procurement, and construction) services for the project. AZCO Incorporated (Menasha, Wisconsin) acted as the general contractor.
