Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Invensys Plc (LSE:ISYS) (London), a global technology and consulting firm, will execute automation and control system orders for thermal power plants in India with a combined capacity of 15,000 megawatts (MW). Under the contracts, Invensys will install software and hardware for the Distributed Control System (DCS) technology under its Foxboro I/A series. This system will control turbines, generators and boilers using the patented "Performance Plus" technology. The company will also implement a system for data acquisition, a supervisory system for furnace safety, a sequence control system for turbines and boilers, and a digital electro-hydraulic turbine control system. Invensys will also provide services including installation, engineering and training.
Among the projects for which orders have been placed on Invensys is the 4,000-MW ultra-mega-power plant (UMPP) being developed by Tata Power Limited (BSE:500400) (Mumbai) in Mundra, Gujarat. Tata Power has placed orders for machinery and equipment for the project. Construction and commissioning of the UMPP will take about three years. Work is expected to begin shortly.
Invensys will also provide automation and control systems for a 3,960-MW coal-fired power project in Mundra being developed by Adani Power Limited (APL) (Ahmedabad, Gujarat), a fully owned subsidiary of Adani Enterprises Limited (BSE:512599) (Ahmedabad, Gujarat).
Invensys will partner with Shandong No. 3 Electric Power Construction Corporation (SEPCO III) (Shandong, China) to implement control system hardware and software for APL's 3,300-MW power plant Kutch, Gujarat.
SEPCO III, a part of Shandong Electrical Power Group Corporation (Shandong, China), is a leading engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for nuclear, hydro, gas and thermal power projects. SEPCO III is among the first Chinese EPC companies to enter the global arena. The company has completed more than 16,000 MW of power project installations. Invensys and SEPCO III have worked together on more than 20 projects worldwide and have also collaborated on several Indian contracts, including a 3,600-MW power project for SRM Energy Limited (BSE:523222) (Mumbai), a 1,215-MW thermal power plant for Vedanta Aluminium Limited (VAL) (Bhubaneswar, Orissa), and a 135-MW power plant for Malavalli Power Plant Private Limited (Bangalore). Invensys had implemented the Foxboro I/A series at the 3,600-MW power plant in Jharsuguda, Orissa, for VAL.
Invensys is a global leader in "Asset Performance Management," which helps business houses and corporations to effectively manage the availability and utilization of production assets in a changing, volatile business environment. The company employs more than 25,000 people in more than 60 countries. In India, Invensys operates five offices with 1,000 employees. The firm plans to set up a service and operations hub in Jamnagar, Gujarat, to cater to clients such as Essar Oil Limited (BSE:500134) (Jamnagar, Gujarat) and Reliance Industries Limited (BSE:500325) (Mumbai). The company's product portfolio includes technology solutions such as Avantis, Triconex, Wonderware, Foxboro and SimSci-Esscor, which assist large refineries, petrochemical complexes, gas plants and power plants to automate critical work processes.
