Iran is pushing ahead with its ambitious plan to become the world's sixth-largest steelmaker. The nation was ranked as the world's 10th-largest steel producer in 2018 and saw more than 31 million tons of crude steel produced in 2019.
Iran's crude steel production increased 30% in 2019, when average global growth stood at 3.5%. The country also has defined 16 development projects in the steel sector to boost the output of steel products by 17.3 million tons in five years.
