It's Business as Usual for Anheuser-Busch's U.S. Breweries after Takeover by Belgium's InBev

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Anheuser-Busch Companies Incorporated (NYSE:BUD) (St. Louis, Missouri), a leading American brewer and maker of Budweiser beer, is being swallowed up by InBev (EBR:INB) (Leuven, Belgium), the world's largest brewer. Nearly a month after launching its takeover bid for Anheuser-Busch, InBev increased its initial offer of $45 billion for the King of Beers to $52 billion to gain the approval of Anheuser's board of directors. The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of 2008.

InBev, known for its aggressive cost-slashing measures, has indicated that Anheuser's 12 U.S. breweries will remain intact and does not anticipate any significant changes to those operations. Breweries are located in Merrimack, New Hampshire; Jacksonville, Florida; Houston, Texas; Fort Collins, Colorado; Fairfield and Van Nuys, California; St. Louis, Missouri; Williamsburg, Virginia; Baldwinsville, New York; Columbus, Ohio; and Cartersville, Georgia. There has been some speculation that InBev might urge U.S. distributors to consolidate its distribution networks.

The combined company will be called Anheuser-Busch InBev and will have its North American headquarters in St. Louis. The company anticipates that 40% of the combined company's revenue will be generated in the U.S.

Based on market capitalization, InBev will be the world's third-largest maker of consumer products after Procter & Gamble (NYSE:PG) (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Nestle S.A. (VTX:NESN) (Vevey, Switzerland).
