Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Johnson Controls Incorporated (NYSE:JCI) (JCI) (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) has invested an estimated $150 million for expansions at the company's battery and distribution in Yuma, Arizona, and its battery manufacturing plant in Holland, Ohio.
In December, JCI completed a $12 million expansion of the battery packaging and distribution center in Yuma. The company expanded its existing 220,000-square-foot distribution center by constructing a 40,000-square-foot warehouse, which increased the company's packaging and distribution operations. Sternco Engineers Incorporated and Eckard Commercial Construction Incorporated, both located in Yuma, provided engineering and general construction services for the expansion.
In October, JCI started a $138.5 million expansion of its Holland, Ohio, automotive battery manufacturing plant. Construction is currently under way on a 200,000-square-foot addition to the existing plant that will allow the company to convert the facility into an absorbent glass mat (AGM) battery facility for start-stop and other high-efficiency vehicles. The expansion will add 6 million AGM batteries per year to JCI's production capacity. Mosser Construction Incorporated (Toledo, Ohio) was selected to provide general construction services for the expansion. JCI expects to complete the expansion by mid-summer.
