Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Canada's TC Energy (NYSE:TRP) (Calgary, Alberta) said this morning it had shut down the Keystone Pipeline after crude oil spilled into a creek near the Nebraska-Kansas border on Wednesday night.
"The affected segment has been isolated, and booms deployed to control downstream migration of the release. The system remains shutdown as our crews actively respond and work to contain and recover the oil," according to a company statement. The company did not give a timeline or a date when oil flows would resume.
The 2,700-mile pipeline system, which is capable of carrying more than 600,000 barrels per day, stretches from Alberta, Canada, through the U.S. Midwest and to the Gulf Coast, and plays a major role in delivering Canadian and U.S. crude supplies to North American markets.
West Texas Intermediate (WTI), the U.S. benchmark, jumped more than 3% after news broke of the outage.
