Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Kinder Morgan Liquids Terminals LLC (Houston, Texas), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kinder Morgan Energy Partners LP (NYSE:KMP). (Houston Texas), is planning to expand its petroleum terminal located in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, on the New York harbor. At the present time, the terminal has 104 storage tanks, with a storage capacity of over 2.2 million barrels. The existing tanks range in size from 1,190 barrels to 300,000 barrels and can handle refined petroleum products, chemicals, and dry bulk products.

Kinder Morgan is planning to expand its refined petroleum products storage and handling capabilities at Perth Amboy by constructing nine new carbon steel tanks. The tanks will range in size from just under 150,000 barrels to just over 170,000 barrels. The larger tanks will be over 120 feet in diameter. If the $20 million expansion proceeds, the combined storage capacity of the facility will exceed 3.6 million barrels. Kinder Morgan hopes to select contractors and begin construction on the expansion by late 2005, with completion slated for late 2006.

This is the fourth round of major liquids capacity expansions Kinder Morgan has recently initiated. At the Carson California terminal, Kinder Morgan has awarded the construction contracts for four of the eighteen planned 180,000 barrel refined petroleum products storage tanks to be constructed there. Kinder Morgan has also implemented several expansion phases at its Carteret terminal in New Jersey, involving the construction of several new refined petroleum products tanks of over 100,000 barrels in size each. Kinder Morgan has been active, as well, on the Gulf Coast of Texas, with additions to its two terminals near Houston, Texas, including the massive 13.8 million barrel capacity terminal in Pasadena, Texas.
