Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Korea East-West Power Company Limited (EWP) (Seoul, South Korea), a generation company of the government-run Korea Electric Power Corporation (NYSE:KEP) (Seoul), is currently conducting site surveys to prepare for the construction of a new windfarm in Jeongseon County in the Gangwon province. Gangwon is located in northwestern South Korea, on the Pacific coast.
Construction on the $75 million windfarm is scheduled to kick off in July 2011 and will involve the installation of 10 turbines, each with capacities of 2 megawatts, to produce a total of 20 MW for the grid. Once completed in December 2012, the site is expected to generate 59,398 megawatt-hours annually.
The Jeongseon windfarm, one of EWP's first large-scale wind power facilities, is part of a bid to cope with the instability of energy supplies caused by the exhaustion of fossil fuels. EWP is actively engaged in developing sources of new renewable energy to implement the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and plans to develop 1,591 MW of renewable energy by 2020.
