Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 79,500-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Europoort Refinery (Rotterdam, Netherlands) will undergo a planned maintenance turnaround in November 2010. The plant is owned by Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) (Safat, Kuwait) and operated by its subsidiary Kuwait Petroleum International (KPI) (Safat).
The future planned turnaround, which mainly will entail cleaning and inspection work, will be carried out in the Crude 2 Area and the Lube Plant. Although major work will be carried in these two areas, the other two areas of the complex (Crude 1 and the Gasoline Plant) will also be shut down. The downtime is expected to last about 20 nonproduction days and will affect the 37,000-BBL/d Crude 2 Area, the Vacuum unit, the Propane Deasphalting unit, the Fulfural Extraction unit, the Dewaxing unit and a Hydrodesulfurization unit, as well as others. In 2012, major maintenance work will be performed in the Crude 1 Area and the Gasoline Plant.
KPC is fully owned by the State of Kuwait. Its business interests are in exploration, production and refining, petrochemicals, marketing, retailing, and marine transportation. KPI was formed 1983 as the international arm of KPC, and under the Q8 brand refines and markets fuel, lubricants and other petroleum derivatives to a diverse customer base across Europe.
