Kubota to Build New Plant in Georgia

Kubota's tractor business has grown steadily and impressively in the United States since the establishment in 1988 of KMA in Gainesville, and because of that growth, KMA's production capabilities have been stretched to the limit.

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Kubota Manufacturing of America (KMA) (Gainesville, Georgia), the U.S. subsidiary of Kubota Corporation (ADR) (NYSE: KUB) (Osaka, Japan) is feeling the sweet pinch of success at its Gainesville, Georgia, plant, due to increasing sales and production demands -- so much so that it is preparing to begin construction on a new 400,000 square foot manufacturing facility in nearby Pendergrass, Jackson County, Georgia.

Kubota's tractor business has grown steadily and impressively in the United States since the establishment in 1988 of KMA in Gainesville, and because of that growth, KMA's production capabilities have been stretched to the limit. KMA's current manufacturing and assembly line-up includes tractor implements, such as loaders and backhoes, sub-compact BX Series tractors, lawn and garden tractors, zero-turn mowers, and the new RTV900 utility vehicle. About one-half of Kubota units sold in the U.S. come from the KMA plant in Gainesville.

The new plant, Kubota's fifth facility in Georgia, will be located on 88 acres in McClure Industrial Park, near the intersection of Dry Pond Road and Interstate 85. KBA expects to employ 500 workers in the first year of operations. Early production will concentrate on tractor implements, such as backhoes and loaders - 70,000 tractor implements per year when fully operational.

Construction on the new $65 million plant will begin in November, and is slated for completion in September 2005. KBA expects to begin production operations in Fall 2005. At this writing, Kubota has not announced the name of the general contractor, but probable contenders for G/C are Shimizu Corporation (Tokyo, Japan; New York City; Atlanta, Georgia) and Takenaka Corporation (Osaka, Japan; Itasca, Illinois).
