Longview Power, LLC, a subsidiary of GenPower Holdings LP, jointly-owned by GenPower, LLC (Needham, Massachusetts) and First Reserve Corporation (Greenwich, Connecticut), has secured financing and is proceeding with construction of a $1.3 billion, 695-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant near Maidsville, West Virginia. During the construction phase of the project, over 1,500 persons will be employed and over 100 employees will operate the plant, once operational.
Longview Power has in place power purchase agreements to supply 300 megawatts of power from the plant to PPL Energy Plus, LLC, a subsidiary of PPL Corporation (NYSE:PPL) (Allentown, Pennsylvania). Intentions are to sell the balance of power into the PJM system on a merchant basis.
