Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Longview Power, LLC, a subsidiary of GenPower Holdings LP, jointly-owned by GenPower, LLC (Needham, Massachusetts) and First Reserve Corporation (Greenwich, Connecticut), has secured financing and is proceeding with construction of a $1.3 billion, 695-megawatt (MW) coal-fired power plant near Maidsville, West Virginia. During the construction phase of the project, over 1,500 persons will be employed and over 100 employees will operate the plant, once operational.

Recently, the company announced that they have awarded a consortium consisting of Siemens Power Generation (Orlando, Florida), a unit of Siemens AG (Munich, Germany), and Aker Kvaerner Songer (Canonsburg, Pennsylvania), a subsidiary of Aker Kvaerner ASA (Lysaker, Norway), a contract to engineer and construct the plant. Siemens will provide a 695-megawatt SST6-6000 steam turbine generator. Aker Kvaerner Songer will provide construction services for balance of plant work. In addition to these contractors, Longview Power recently awarded the boiler supply contract to Foster Wheeler, Limited (NYSE:FWLT) (Clinton, New Jersey) through its Global Power Group. Foster Wheeler will design and supply a supercritical once-through pulverized coal-fired boiler. Preliminary construction activities for the new plant started earlier this year and completion of the project and commercial operation is planned for late 2011.

Longview Power has in place power purchase agreements to supply 300 megawatts of power from the plant to PPL Energy Plus, LLC, a subsidiary of PPL Corporation (NYSE:PPL) (Allentown, Pennsylvania). Intentions are to sell the balance of power into the PJM system on a merchant basis.
