Los Angeles Completes Construction of $146 Million Wind Project

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Los Angeles Department of Water & Power (LADWP) (Los Angeles, California), has completed construction and commissioning of the $146 million, 120-megawatt (MW) Pine Tree Wind Energy Project located near California City, California.

Construction of the project started in the fall of 2007 and was completed this spring. LADWP anticipates full commercial operation of the new project by early July and will have the capacity to provide enough renewable energy to power up to 56,000 homes in California. The project consisted of constructing 80 1.5-MW GE Energy sle model wind turbine generators in Kern County, just northwest of California City. Pine Tree is slated to be the largest municipality-owned and operated windfarm project in the U.S. and is a key element in LADWP's efforts to expand its renewable energy portfolio.

Kiewit Pacific Company (Santa Fe Springs, California), a subsidiary of Kiewit Corporation (Omaha, Nebraska) provided the turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction services for the project.
