Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Louisville Gas & Electric Company (NYSE: LGE) (Louisville, Kentucky), a subsidiary of PowerGen plc (United Kingdom) has completed construction and is in start-up testing for the new $200 million expansion project at the Trimble County Power Station located in Bedford, Trimble County, Kentucky.
Construction for the project began in March 2003 and was completed in April 2004. Louisville Gas & Electric Company anticipates full commercial operation of the project in June of 2004. The expansion project consisted of adding four 152 MW dual fuel GE Power Systems MS7001FA combustion turbine generators each equipped with dry low-NOx combustors to the existing coal-fired plant that utilizes a single 512MW GE Power Systems condensing tandem compound steam turbine generator and a Alstom Combustion Engineering tangential dry bottom boiler. By adding these new turbines the plant has now opened the door for fuel flexibility and possible combined cycle conversion. The new units will add an additional 600MW to the Trimble County Power Station.
Black & Veatch Corporation headquartered in Overland, Kansas and its subsidiary Overland Contracting Incorporated performed both the engineering and the construction duties for the project.
