Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--As Hurricane Ida's status was downgraded to a tropical storm yesterday, some of the major oil and gas assets in the Gulf of Mexico remained shut down by the threat of a potential hurricane. Major natural gas hub the Independence Hub, operated by Enterprise Products Partners LP (NYSE:EPD) (Houston, Texas) was shut down and evacuated.

The Viosca Knoll gas gathering system, which processes natural gas from two Shell (NYSE:RDS.A) (The Hague, Netherlands) oilfields in the Gulf was also shut down, as well as the West Delta 68 platform, which feeds natural gas into the Tennessee Pipeline. The Louisiana offshore oil port stopped unloading tankers, and the ripple effect started affecting oil and gas producers upstream in the northeastern region of the Gulf and tankers on the Mississippi River and Intracoastal Waterway. The bulk of the production in the Gulf is located to the west of the storm's path.

Onshore, Shell's Pascagoula, Mississippi, refinery remained at normal operation as well as refineries belonging to Chalmette Refining, Shell Norco and Exxon Mobile (NYSE:XOM) (Irving, Texas) refineries, Valero's (NYSE:VLO) Saint Charles, Louisiana, refinery and ConocoPhillips' (NYSE:COP) refinery in Belle Chase.

Other facilities in the storm's path include Alabama Power Company's (NYSE:ALM) plants in Theodore and Bucks, Alabama; Arizona Chemical's facility in Panama City, Florida; DuPont's (NYSE:DD) facilities in Mobile, Alabama, and Pass Christian, Mississippi; Gulf Power Company's (NYSE:GUL) plants in Pensacola, Southport and Pace, Florida; INEOS' plant in Theodore; Mississippi Phosphates's plant in Pascagoula, and Mississippi Power Company's (NYSE:MPJ) generating plants in Gulfport, Pascagoula and Moss Point, Mississippi.
