Malaysian smelters across the country continue lowering production levels due to decreasing Chinese demand and disruption in the material supply chain caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Ferro-alloy smelter OM Materials (Sarawak) Sendirian Berhad has idled two of its 10 furnaces and has kicked off its annual maintenance prior to schedule as it grapples with a shortage in raw material.
Silicon smelter OCI Malaysia Sendirian Berhad has drastically lowered its operational levels to 30% and implemented government sanctioned health and safety measures on-site. Pertama Ferroalloy Sendirian Berhad's manganese-ferroalloy smelter has also lowered production level and is currently relying on existing raw material on-site to continue operation.
