Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Vesta Incorporated (Franklin, Wisconsin), a contract manufacturer of medical molding, medical extrusion and medical device assembly, will be completing approximately $30 million in major expansions during the first and second quarters of 2010. The expansions are taking place in Wisconsin and California.

Vesta doubled its Franklin, Wisconsin, manufacturing facility to 53,000 square feet in 2003, and is now doubling that manufacturing space to 120,000 square feet. This expansion will absorb the seven workers employed at the Vesta's Portage, Wisconsin, facility and expected completion is in the first quarter of 2010. Vesta is also adding to a new facility for thermoplastics production in Corona, California, in support of its recent acquisition of ExtruMed LLC (Temecula, California). The new California facility will consolidate ExtruMed's current operations in Placentia, California, and Temecula, California, with completion expected by the summer of 2010.

Founded in 1972 by two medical engineers and focusing on silicone medical devices, Vesta Incorporated has grown steadily into a global leader in contract medical device manufacturing. Each year, Vesta is responsible for the molding, extruding and assembling of more than 50 million components for the world's top medical device companies. Vesta's growth is made possible by their relationship with RoundTable Health Partners (Lake Forest, Illinois), an operating-oriented private equity firm which formulated the acquisition of ExtruMed. Vesta incorporates Lean Six Sigma quality management principals at every level of its operations and conducts extensive validation procedures to ensure each product is of the highest quality. Vesta recently received the Frost & Sullivan award of the 2009 North American Plastics in Medical Tubing & Catheters Market Competitive Strategy Leadership of the Year Awards, in recognition of Vesta's strategies to increase its customer value and market share.

Berghammer Construction Corporation (Butler, Wisconsin) is handling the general contractor duties for the Franklin facility, which will include a development laboratory. The research and development area, dubbed Vesta Innovations, will allow clients to work onsite with Vesta personnel in the early stages of product development. At present, no additional equipment will be purchased for the Franklin facility. The remaining space will allow Vesta to expand its packaging, warehouse, assembly and secondary operations and reserve additional room to allow the future installation of equipment and machinery. According to a statement issued by Executive Vice President Jim Fitzgerald, the original facility was overstocked with machinery, but the new footprint will allow for additional presses and jobs in the long-term. The plant currently houses 11 extruders and 60 horizontal and vertical presses, and employs more than 300 workers.

Norm Wilson and Sons Incorporated (Long Beach, California) is building an addition to the 36,000-square-foot facility in California for ExtruMed. This new facility will expand the company's secondary services, such as cutting, drilling and assembly of balloons to catheters.

Vesta Incorporated's strategic expansions are occurring at the optimum time, both from internal and external perspectives. The time is ripe for construction in these hard economic times due to fewer projects and an increased competition among engineering, architectural and construction firms. Vesta and ExtruMed are burgeoning at the seams in their current facilities and are in need of more bricks and mortar to accommodate and streamline their manufacturing. This is simply a win-win situation for all those associated with the projects and their respective communities.
