MidAmerican Completes Construction of 310-Megawatt Storm Lake Wind Farm Project in Iowa

MidAmerican Energy Holding Company (Des Moines, Iowa) has completed construction and is in start-up testing of the $323 million Storm Lake Windfarm project, located in Storm Lake, Iowa (Buena Vista and Sac County).

Construction for the project started in early October 2004. Storm Lake is scheduled to begin commercial operation by the end of 2004. The project will utilize 100 GE Wind Energy 1.5-megawatt wind turbines that will total up to 310-megawatts. That is enough energy to power 85,000 homes. MidAmerican is also working on another 150-Megawatt windfarm in Blairsburg, which is scheduled for commercial operation in the spring of 2005.

GE Wind Energy, based in Atlanta, Georgia, provided the engineering services for the project. M.A. Mortenson Company, headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, was the general contractor.
