Researched by Industrial Information Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--On December 14, 2010, Louisa Power Station went offline because of a generator-coolant leak. The leak was severe enough to delay the date that the plant will return online to mid-February, as the entire generator must be rebuilt.
Louisa Power Station is a 738-megawatt power station in Muscatine, Iowa. The coal-fired plant is owned and operated by MidAmerican Energy Company (Des Moines, Iowa), a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:BRK.A) (Omaha, Nebraska). Louisa began operating in October 1983 with a Siemens Westinghouse steam turbine and a Babcock & Wilcox dry-bottom boiler.
