A power plant under construction in Nevada by leading private energy producer Mirant Corporation (NYSE: MIR) (Atlanta, Ga.) has reached the startup phase. Apex I is a 535MW natural gas-fired power plant located in North Las Vegas. Construction of the plant started last summer and is currently is at the 90% mark. Plans are to begin the commissioning phase next month, with commercial operation scheduled for April 2003. Plans for Apex II, which would add an additional 500MW, are on hold indefinitely.
