Mirant's Apex I Power Plant in Nevada in Startup Mode

A power plant under construction in Nevada by leading private energy producer Mirant Corporation (NYSE: MIR) (Atlanta, Ga.) has reached the startup phase. Apex I is a 535MW natural gas-fired power plant located in North Las Vegas. Construction of the plant started last summer and is currently is at the 90% mark. Plans are to begin the commissioning phase next month, with commercial operation scheduled for April 2003. Plans for Apex II, which would add an additional 500MW, are on hold indefinitely.

The Shaw Group Incorporated (NYSE: SGR) (Baton Rouge, Louisiana), with its subsidiary Stone & Webster, is the primary contractor for the project.
