Missouri to Get $23 Million Commercial Door Manufacturing Plant

Plans are to renovate the former O'Sullivan Industries 1.2 million-square-foot manufacturing plant at 1900 Gulf Street, which was closed fall 2007, where the company will be able to manufacture commercial and residential fire-rated doors at low cost. The company plans to spend $20 million on production equipment and $3 million on renovations and structural modifications to the existing property.

The City of Lamar and Gulf Street Partners, an investment company purchasing the facility, will be leasing the facility to Polymer-Wood Technologies. This will be the company's first production plant and will employ approximately 500 people. Production is anticipated to begin in fall 2010.

The new plant will enable the company to be the first manufacturer of fiberboard-core commercial doors by utilizing the latest machinery and automated processing lines to construct doors with less labor cost than competitors, allowing the company to produce doors more quickly and efficiently. The facility will also enable the company to be an integrated manufacturer of primer-coated and simulated-veneer-finished, fire-rated and solid-core MDF commercial interior doors.

Polymer-Wood Technologies, formed in 2005, is anticipated to be the first high-volume, fully automated manufacturer of wood components using European manufacturing techniques.
