Mitsubishi Prepares for the Startup of its New Nylon Polymers Plant on the East Coast

MGC Advanced Polymers Incorporated (Colonial Heights, Virginia), a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Gas Chemical America Incorporated (New York, New York), is preparing for the commercial start-up and operation of its new plant located in Colonial Heights, Virginia, next month. This new plant cost an estimated $14 million and will initially produce an estimated 10,000 metric tons per year of Nylon-MXD6.

Construction began in November 2003, under the direction of the engineering and construction firm, James N Gray Company (Lexington, Kentucky), which was hired as the project's general contractor. This plant will be Mitsubishi's first site to produce the high gas barrier Nylon-MXD6 product outside of Japan.
